Fishing report for June 15
June 15, 2011 Comments Off on Fishing report for June 15
Salmon fishing has stayed pretty good over the last month especially over on the gulf Islands. Thrasher Rock and the east side of Gabriola have been producing good numbers of chinook up to 25lbs. Lots of grey cod keeping the rods moving as well as ling cod and rock cod. Seems like most days we go across the straight we are being entertained by the local population of porpose as well as lots of sightings of grey whales.
We have also been spending a bit of time as well in the middle of the straight with good success for chinook as well. The local fishery has been descent with chinook and coho being hooked off south Bowen as well as the outer reaches of the harbour. We are starting to hook a few coho as well of south Bowen, we hope this is a good indication of the run of coho that usually start showing up in good numbers the last few weeks of June and throughout July. Crabbing has been excellent as usuall all around the harbour and the fraser mouth. We are excited about the summer of fishing ahead. All indications show it will be another good summer with coho in June and July, then the always strong summer chinook runs followed by an enormous run of Pinks expected for August and September bound for the Fraser River.
Pitt River Fly and Spin fishing
The Pitt River is now in season for Sea-run Bull trout. Fishing has just got started and we will be fishing daily between now and late July. Water conditions are perfect right now so we should start seeing some larger schools of fish entering over the next week.
Here’s a beauty caught a couple days ago while fishing the Pitt River.
Sturgeon Fishing the Fraser
Fishing has been fair to good, each day is a bit different right now as high water has these fish spread all over the place. Once we put in our time we are usually successful catching 4 to 6 fish on an average day. Some days are better but until we start seeing the river drop you can expect these types of numbers.
Were on the water each and every day, give us a call or e-mail if you’re looking to get out on the water.
